HEAD OF COMPOSITE CENTRE

Prof. Ton Peijs

Professor of Materials,
Director of Research,
Queen Mary University of London, UK

Professor Peijs received his PhD from Eindhoven University of Technology (The Netherlands) where he also held a position as an Assistant Professor in Composite Materials. Ton joined Queen Mary University of London in 1999 where he is currently a Professor in Polymer Technology.

His research interests cover the whole technology platform from processing and characterisation to the performance evaluation and applications of polymers, high performance fibres and their composites. In recent years, his work has mainly focused on the utilization of nanoscale architectures in polymer composites for structural and functional properties.

Ton is the author or co-author of over 250 papers in journals and books and is the recipient of the 2008 Dutch Polymer Award of Polymer Technology Netherlands (PTN) and the 2010 Swinburne Medal & Prize of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining for his contribution to polymer science and technology, and he was the elected chairman of the 2008 Gordon Research Conference on Composites. Ton is involved in the exploitation of nanocomposites research by industry through Nanoforce Technology Ltd. a spin-out company, wholly-owned by QMUL.

Ton is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Nanocomposites.
